Spain Day 2- Madrid

Day two in Spain was spent exploring Madrid. We loved this city! We are early risers so we were ready to hit the ground running early! We ventured over to the grand palace. Grand was an understatement! This place was amazing! It looked like a castle out of a fairy tale. The architecture and detail was so beautiful and I could have walked around for hours! I was amazed it still looked so good since it was centuries old! We spent a good amount of time walking from room to room just admiring everything. After we left the palace we were in search of lunch and found a cute little cafĂ© on a little side street, just perfect for people watching (a favorite pastime of mine!). We each had the paella and it was delicious! The rest of the day was spent just walking the city, going to the different squares and the occasional stop for a sangria or wine break! The wine in Spain was so good and so inexpensive. That first day we clocked 10 miles on our fitbits before we headed in for dinner. We are true believers that you cannot see a city unless you walk and that is exactly what we did! After a brief hotel break we headed to dinner in one of Spain's many squares. In Spain the lunch and dinner times are very different that what we are used to. Lunch consists of a big meal and is served with wine between 2-4 followed by an afternoon nap or siesta. Dinner can be anywhere from 10-midnight. It is mainly small plates or tapas paired with wine. It was so confusing to us! That is the end of day two.
