Anniversary Trip to Spain, Day 1, Madrid

This post is me backtracking so I can document our recent travels to Spain  So we love to travel. Like really, really love it. We love new food, new adventures and just getting lost in a city! We traveled to Spain in July for our first anniversary. Our original plan was to travel by military plane. It is referred to as Space A (or space available) meaning you can fly any available seats on an army cargo plane. Like I said we are always up for an adventure so we thought why not give it a try! So long story short after traveling up the east coast for 3 days we were not able to get a seat on the plan as they are only given on a space available basis. (if anyone military wants to know more about our space A travels I am happy to elaborate a little more). As our hearts were already set on Spain we bought 2 last minute tickets (and when I say last minute I mean as in bought that morning, drove 1.5 hrs to the airport and left that night!) at a surprisingly great price and we were finally on our way. We prefer comfort and mobility when traveling so we packed everything for 10 days in a carry on and each of us carried a back pack. It is not glamorous traveling, just functional!  We first flew into Madrid. Such a gorgeous city! Very similar to New York City but the buildings are old and the architecture is just breathtaking! We checked in our hotel , Hotel Sidorme Fuencarral 52. Located in Gran Via, which is also known as Madrid's time square. We loved this hotel! It was centrally located so we could walk to everything. Since we arrived later in the afternoon we found a cute little restaurant to sit outside and people watch and ordered our first (of many) pitchers of Sangria. Long first day but oh so worth it!
